Escape From City 17 got a nice writeup at Wired recently.
The mixed-media movie was created on a shoestring budget by gamer/filmmaker brothers David and Ian Purchase, who “borrowed a page from the machinima playbook, exporting assets from Half-Life and combining the bleak videogame imagery with photographs and traditional video.”

Really impressive! Some of the technical shortcomings were mildly annoying, but we can’t really expect amateurs to have access to a Steadicam, I suppose. The costumes were quite convincing, though, and the post-production integration of in-game CGI blended seamlessly with the real-world digital video.
I’m looking forward to subsequent installments!
